To be totally honest, family holiday meals in the chilly New England climate get me a little down. Being 100% raw was the worst – bringing raw burgers and a dehydrator to the ‘in-law’s’ was kind of embarrassing and no one ever really wants to try anything raw vegan… unless it’s full of agave and looks kind of like a brownie. At least in Australia if I show up with a fresh, vibrant salad and a platter of tropical fruit people get excited :)
Last night I bought a lettuce and a bunch of bananas… This morning I have a green breakfast! Who said this was difficult?… so read my FB page on Sunday morning, accompanied by a photo of my thick delicious green smoothie.
One of my favorite things about fall is apples! Simply I know but it is so much fun to get a whole lot more variety and the ability to pick them yourself – haven’t done that this year yet, but it’s always an adventure to look forward to here in New England.
So I know this recipe might get me in ‘trouble’ with some of my strictly raw friends, or those that don’t ever eat honey (or peanut butter for that matter), but sometimes I like to compromise a little so I can cook a meal my bf will enjoy, and that we can share… a few months ago, said omnivore felt like peanut stir-fry and it became a fast favorite. It’s not really an everyday kind of meal given the fats (and I go through phases of absolutely no honey or peanuts) but it’s a good one for every now and then, or for entertaining omnivores.
I broke my cuke-juice virginity today! Very exciting :) I started with Joe’s mean green juice from Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead and the Reboot Program but can’t wait to also try some of the suggestions my facebook friends provided, so stay tuned…
It is hot and overcast in Boston today with a 60% chance of thunderstorms… not a good day for a 4hr return trip to Six Flags, much to my disappointment – it is my birthday after all. After the initial disappointment I actually embraced a lazy day at home (with the exception of dinner at the most wonderful, expensive place I can find…), as I have just had a long week of intense on-campus study for my MBA and I’m exhausted.
Today was shopping day and organic berries and stone fruits are out in force, so we spent most of the afternoon eating the delicious selection of cherries, raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, grapes, apricots, and nectarines I so naughtily washed and placed on the counter. As a result, we weren’t really hungry but I knew that we would be hungry later if I didn’t make something more substantial so I set out on a mission… criteria included:
I couldn’t believe it… I had water boiling on the stove, in which to put rice noodles for stir-fry (not part of any detox that I know of!), and while rummaging through the fridge for vegetables I stumbled across a perfectly chunky zucchini and was suddenly overwhelmed with a desire for raw pasta! I can’t tell you how long it’s been since raw food was what I felt like vs. what I was pushing myself to eat. I guess the last two days of raw food have started to kick in!!
I need some time to think about what to write about my Beauty Detox experience as I want to rant and rave about how much I’m not enjoying it but feel like, on day 2, I’m not far enough in to make a valid judgement. That being said, I did create a new breakfast recipe yesterday morning by accident that I thought I’d share because I actually really liked it and it’s sooo simple – woop woop!! It’s been sooo long since a new recipe has graced these pages…
Today I joined the ‘skinny’ jeans club. The one where membership requires you to have a pair (‘that’ pair) of slim-fit jeans that you really love but have to lie down on the bed to pull on, and wiggle (and wiggle) and suck in your tummy to zip up; only to spend all day with a wedgie from front-to-back and muffin-tops* poking out the top, wishing you had never bothered…
