watermelon + pear green smoothie

Watermelon Smoothie

Wow! It’s been soooo long since I’ve done a blog, sorry peeps. Today I was so excited about my green smoothie though that I just had to share. To be fair, it’s not often I make a green smoothie I’m excited about so this is quite a big deal for me :)

The thing I like most, in addition to the yummy watermelon flavor and the fact it’s green and good for me is that it’s really more the consistency of juice. Sometimes I really hate the thought of a thick, creamy smoothie in the morning so I don’t have them, but this was really easy to drink and I had 32oz in no time at all!

masticating makes me happy

CRV: “Did I really just post a comment that said ‘masticating makes me happy’?!? Ooops, yes, I really did ;)”

MC: “You can’t overstate the importance of proper mastication! Personally, I think it deserves a blog post…”

I love blogging about conversations I have on Facebook! The first (and last) one was a while ago and had more of a negative / defensive tone than I typically go for (if you want to know how I feel about putting the hard vegan word on people, you can find out here) but today I’m all about mastication! I am supposed to be doing a whole lot of study for my mba right now but got a little caught up in this!

wheatgrass and juicy oranges

Wheatgrass Shots

It must have been a good 6 months since I last juiced wheatgrass! On Saturday I have my first trip to the store since my snowboarding accident so I got to pick up stuff that jumps out at me rather than pre-preparing a list, and the wheatgrass was definitely jumping into my cart! Excitement :)

guidance for newbie raw foodies

I just received the most lovely message from a new friend on facebook. He has recently started his raw food journey (exciting!!) and is a fellow bum-wiggler which is also exciting because I truly believe the world needs more happy bum-wiggling! And he likes my red shoes, which made me sad because I’m not sure when I’ll be able to wear them again… damn broken ankle.

Anyways, I (by accident) went on a little rant about my ‘guidance’ for a raw foodie newbie, which, in retrospect may have been a little self-indulgent, but thought it might make for a thought-provoking blog post, so here it is.

blackberry and kiwi pulp

Blackberry and Kiwi Pulp

The sun is shining today and I actual felt like juice this morning – happy days! I have been in a bit of a health food funk at the moment, and despite loving juice and smoothies, and finally acquiring a taste for salads, and knowing it’s good for me, I have just not been wanting to eat any of it! Hopefully the (slow but steady) arrival of spring will continue to inspire me.

There’s nothing like the burning desire to procrastinate to get a blog post going! That and a rainy, grey day outside which has somehow managed to infiltrate the windows to create a grey day inside too…

apple + ginger juice

After quite the hiatus, I’m a little sorry to say my first blog is about one of the most simple pleasures… apple juice. On the flip side, maybe that’s exactly the right entrance point for me. Having a broken ankle is making exciting new raw food prep hard so I’m not spending much time in the kitchen, and when I do it needs to be quick as I can’t hop around for long periods of time without becoming dangerously tired (literally).

That being said, my apple juice this morning was glorious!! Fresh, crisp and perfect to sip on as the spring sun streams in the windows.

Life does not have to be complicated :)

hearty lentil soup

Hearty Lentil Soup

Today I played gardener, handy(wo)man, cleaner, laundry-lady, interior (re)decorator, and yogi. Come 6:30pm however, I just didn’t have the energy to add grocery-shopper or gourmet chef to that list!

I didn’t eat much all day – about 8 bananas, a dozen medjool dates, and a load of water, so definitely had an appetite after yoga. I also felt like something warm, so for those pure raw foodies out there, this one is cooked; and for those of you who don’t eat legumes (which is usually me, btw!), this has lentils. But for those who are eating low-fat and/or whole-food, plant-based (wfpb) vegan, this is totally yummy!

I am reserving the right to come back and comment on how the digestive system takes to the lentils though… I’m a little nervous :)

green + gold smoothie

Green and Gold Smoothie

I would have felt much better about making this smoothie back home in Australia during summer, with fresh local ingredients, than during winter in Boston with fruits from far, far, away… but I needed a pick-me-up and since I don’t have time for a tropical vacation, a smoothie will have to do. It did remind me of Australia though with the green + gold colors so will pay tribute through the name :)

green smoothies should be all about FRUIT

Day 2 of my transition to a more 80/10/10 style of eating and I have already had my first ‘ah-ha’ moment! Actually, I probably had my first one last week when I did a day of all fruit, but it will take some courage to write about that one, so will save it for a day I’m feeling a little more brave.

Anyways… back to my ah-ha. {…drum-roll…} Green smoothies should be all about FRUIT!
