I typically work from home on Friday, which I love because it gives me some freedom to experiment in the kitchen, and hate because I end up spending a lot of time experimenting in the kitchen… or at least eating. And today is Friday, and it is also day 3 of an impromptu 30 day smoothie challenge thrown out into the universe by a friend of Bianca from Wholefood Simply; I jumped on board as my green smoothie intake has been a little inconsistent in recent months. It never ceases to amaze me how people I get on to green smoothies are always so much better at having them consistently than I am! Oh well, it’s nice to be spreading the love.
After a little duplication in mine and my partner’s shopping expeditions this week I had seven avocados waiting to be experimented with. I think I have mentioned this before, but I have never been able to get avocado to work in a smoothie. It may give the texture of a banana but is not always a tasty substitute. However, this morning I thought I’d try again, and given it’s Friday and I have two macro economics exams to study for in-and-around work (and procrastinating with my blog!), I was feeling like I needed some indulgence. And of course, one of my most favorite indulgences is chocolate… and it just so happens to works really well with avocado :)
Ingredients – as always organic everything is better:
This smoothie is obviously really creamy so you texture freaks out there will probably either love or hate it. Let me know!

PS. After a kind reader asked me if I actually liked it or not, I realized I hadn’t weighed in… I love it! Totally addicted : )

Thanks for the inspiration! We start almost every day with a green smoothie and we LOVE it. We have never added an avocado though but this one sounds delicious :) Good luck with your exams!
I’m so happy you found some inspiration here! Let me know how you like it :)
Another recipe I have been loving lately with avocado is from my friend Bianca @ Wholefood Simply. Beet was a but scary bit totally worth overcoming!

Sounds and looks so tasty! A few weeks back, I made myself a similar smoothie (avocado, banana, cacao), but I didn’t add spinach. Next time, most definitely. :) As for this morning, I was in a hurry, so a super simple but delicious smoothie of mango and banana did the job.
