80/10/10(crazy)rv?

I’m back on the crazy train! Two weeks after my new year’s blog about seriously getting back into raw foods based on my new-found wisdom re. how be successfully achieve goals, and my second raw vegan meal plan (my attempt at being ‘organized’), I’m going after something new!  Oh dear…

shit omnivores say: meat = man??

“So how was the weekend” asks my new manager at work on Monday morning.

Me: “Great! We went skiing in Vermont and there was actually some decent snow…”

“Did you go out on Saturday night”

“Yes, we found this cute little restaurant that had actually been recommended to me by a friend. They had some good vegan options, which was nice”

“Is your boyfriend a vegan too?”

“Nope, he had steak*” and smiled ironically.

shit omnivores say: the P word

Ill-informed omnivore: “Ooooh! Being a vegan is so unhealthy, you won’t get enough protein. Where do you get your protein from?”

Well-read vegan: “Do you know what protein actually is? Do you know why we need it? Do you know how much you really need?

No?!?

Fancy that.

oil pulling and morning routines

Oil Pulling

I have been meaning to (and even worse, promising to) write this blog for ages, I’m sorry! I started experimenting with oil pulling back in October and have mentioned it on facebook and a lot of people have asked about it so wanted to get my experience out there for anyone else who is curious.

After initially hearing about it from a social media source I now forget, I did some research. Most sites reiterate what is covered on oilpulling.com regarding the process and the touted benefits – there are also a few demo videos out there that are worth watching if only for a laugh. I also found some articles that said it was a load of crap, so I did what I thought was the only thing to do, and tried it for myself!

raw vegan meal plan #2

Meal Plan #2

Oh my goodness! I had the best of intentions of doing regular meal plans back in April 2011. After one attempt, it seems I ran out of steam. And here I go again in light of my 2012 raw resolutions…!

The challenge last time was to try new recipes. This time I feel it’s necessary to revisit a few old favorites to get back into the swing of the high raw thing, and gradually add in new recipes. Would love your feedback on how useful this is to share with you all, or any suggestions you may have.

raw resolutions

I started my crazy raw vegan adventures in March 2010. I was super-motivated when I started and managed 100% high raw vegan for the first six months… I felt great, I lost 13lb without trying, my troublesome skin started to clear up (a little), and I generally had more consistent energy – or at the very least, eliminating gluten meant I wasn’t falling asleep at work after lunch!

This time last year, after a little time off the raw wagon, I made a resolution to get back into a very high raw diet. To be an organized, inspired, blog-writing, crazy raw vegan again. To be honest, I’m not sure that lasted a week. I made the same resolution yesterday. It lasted a day. I needed some vegan Indian take-out to recover from the NYE celebrations. But I am determined to start properly tomorrow once I can get to the store to stock up my fridge…

almond milk

Almond Milk Ingredients

I know there are a million recipes out there for almond milk but I am continually upset to hear that people don’t like almond milk because the stuff they buy in stores is too sweet and I just can’t accept that as an excuse! Homemade nut milks can be as sweet or as plain as you like and you can experiment until you find your perfect combination. I’m on a crusade to convert as many of my friends and family members to homemade nut milk – dairy milk is totally unnecessary – and I’m happy to say I’m  at four permanent converts and counting!

Chop-Chop Salad

Mimi Kirk has done it again! Just when I thought I’d become ‘disenchanted’ with raw foods (i.e., lazy), I found a yummy salad dressing in Mimi’s wonderful book Live Raw.

It went down like this…

farm fresh tomato soup, no cans allowed

Tomato Soup

It is a miserable afternoon in Boston… raining and cold and supposedly snowing later on. There are Halloween parties I’m supposed to dress up for, then there’s what I want to do, which is to stay at home writing my MBA application essays and watching movies and eating soup. Tomato soup.

super-food crunchy-nut gra(w)nola

Grawnola

Last night someone called me crazy. It is the first time I have really been called crazy since I went raw and friends were calling me crazy all the time (hence the name of the blog… and I actually quite like being a little crazy). Anyway, this was because I put a batch of granola in the dehydrator on Sunday and forgot about it until last night, which was Friday. Lucky it was still good. Actually, it’s better than good, it’s pretty damn addictive, and it’s good for you! Not just because it’s raw, but because I developed it without sweeteners, i.e. agave or maple syrup, and it’s still sweet without being overpowering.
