Squash is the new potato.
I just came home to the most wonderful smell of squash chips in the dehydrator and realized, as much as I used to think I loved potato chips, they ain’t got nothing on my squash chips. I also am embarrassed that I was so confused about what to with all the squash and zucchini that I had accumulated from two weeks of CSA bags from my farmer Bob and new friends at Marshall’s Fenway Farm Stand yesterday, but it had been so long since I made these that I had totally forgotten about them!
They’re sooo easy (easier than kale chips and less messy) and really, really tasty.
If you have another favorite spice, experiment! I also like Victoria’s Herbes de Provence :)
I tried this recipe – used cajun spice on some and garlic salt on a few – YUMMY!
What type of dehydrator do you have?
I have an Excalibur 5 tray with both mesh and teflex sheets and love it! Bought a timer separately so I didn’t have to be home to turn it off but I think some models come with one built in. My only regret is not getting the 9 tray :)
you’d use a 9 tray for yourself? I’m tossing up between the 5 tray or 9 tray and becase it’s just me I’m thinking 5 tray but then I think I can do teice as much if I get the 9 tray…dilemma!
When I’m in full raw mode, I would definitely use 9 trays and would probably look into selling some of my goodies too – people have asked me to and I would love to do it. It’s hard for me to provide advice fir you individual situation but suppose it depends how much room you have / cash to spend / commitment to dehydrated foods but for most things I find more is better :)
Just purchased an Excalibur 9 tray :) for the extra $100 AUD I thought I’d just do it!
An impressive share! I have just forwarded this onto a friend who has been doing a little homework on this.
And he actually bought me lunch simply because I discovered it for him…
lol. So let me reword this…. Thanks for the meal!!
But yeah, thanks for spending time to discuss this matter
here on your blog.
