I really don’t know where to start. I have verbal (mental?) diarrhea, or whatever I should call far too many thoughts running around in my head. I just got back from my first hot yoga class in 2 months having finally recovered from two sprained ankles and a problematic knee – a long story, but suffice to say I might be clumsy! I have in front of me a salad that is so random I wouldn’t suggest you try this one at home, which is odd because I’m not a huge salad person, but that’s another story and what I really wanted to share is quite profound.
Mark, *my* beautiful, spiritual, flexible grey-haired wonder of a yoga instructor, today shared something that really resonated with me. He was talking about how our yoga practice will change with the seasons, that as the temperature outside warms up we walk in to a class with out chest upright, our shoulders relaxed and our hips open as opposed to being hunched over to protect us from the cold, and that our practice too, will open up more easily.
On my walk home I realized that this physiological change is a great analogy for my recent psychological changes. I realized that during winter (which in Boston is insufferably long), I do become a little emotionally closed off, less interested in opportunities and somewhat temperamental. Over the last week though, I have been feeling significantly more optimistic about things, more proactive not only identifying opportunities but creating opportunities, and generally more warm and friendly towards the world.
What a glorious realization! Spring is here. Flowers will bloom. My favorite fruits and vegetables will spring forth from the farmers soil and I can capture the aliveness of it all in my kitchen, in my soul. Bliss.
If only I can hold on to this knowledge next winter…!
PS. Amongst the craziness in my salad (greens, sauerkraut, beets, wakame, cherry tomatoes and balsamic/olive oil…??), I had a pile of alfalfa sprouts. I can’t even remember the last time I bought alfalfa sprouts but just realized how much I really like them! Being a raw vegan should really be as much about raw food as living food, i.e. sprouts. Get into them, they’re yummy!
