Chocolate Superfood Smoothie

It appears that I can’t get enough of creating new smoothie concoctions lately! Or, I am simply substituting too many meals with these things ; ) Oh well, there are definitely worse things, right??

Yesterday I had a terrible craving for chocolate and bananas… I just googled ‘chocolate craving’ and apparently this means I’m “the life of the party, a social butterfly, and right in the mix of the team project at work”… hmmm. Ok?! More likely that I needed both a pick-me-up after a late night studying post-Bruins defeat in the Stanley Cup and some banana goodness to help with the healing of my ankle post-surgery last week. But whatever the reason, this smoothie is a keeper!

Ingredients for approx 28 oz

  • 1 cup filtered water
  • 2-3 bananas depending on size
  • 1 tbls raw cacao powder
  • 2 tbls hemp seeds
  • 1/2 tbls lucuma powder (optional)
  • 2 Medjool dates – soaked over night if they have gone hard or you don’t have a powerful blender – and add the soaking water to the 1 cup listed above for extra sweetness!
  • 5-6 ripe strawberries
  • 2 large handfuls baby spinach
  • Small pinch of sea or pink Himalayan salt
  • Handful ice cubes, if desired

Instructions

  1. Add everything to a large blender jug and blend! If you don’t
  2. If you have time, you can blend without the ice cubes and store in the fridge for a few hours to chill

xx

  2. This sounds yummy! I love to make green smoothies because you can use the greens to balance out the sugars in your smoothie. I’ve really been liking this one I posted a video of on my youtube channel. It’s honestly soo yummy and easy to make! http://youtu.be/Pi1tqJX00ZU

  3. This looks delicious! I think I would add a handful of radicchio leaves for the superfood benefits, but otherwise I would leave the recipe exactly the same. Thank you for sharing!
